“Finally, the day had come. On the second of February 1954, on a bitterly cold morning when the temperature was minus 17 degrees Celsius, we, my Mum and Dad, my expectant wife and I, left with only our hand luggage for Rotterdam; destination Sydney, Australia.”
Growing up in Holland during the Second World War, Martin Jonkers was involved in the Resistance and with the end of the war in Europe, joined the army to liberate the Dutch East Indies.
As I remember follows the life story of Martin as he remembers his childhood, army life in Indonesia, migration and the life he carves out for his family in Australia.
A life filled with blessings and service to others.
