Download Platforms

Posted by Andy McDermott - Publicious Book Publishing on 6 March 2024

Last month, we discussed the types of freebies you can offer your potential readers. For the following exercise let’s assume you have written a novella as a prequel to your book, and that you want to give it away in the hope that your potential buyers will be so engrossed after reading it, they’ll want to purchase your book, or sign up for your newsletter. This is called a reader magnet.

Obviously, for this to be free, you’ll want to offer it as an ebook with a sample chapter at the end and those juicy links where those potential readers who you have left hanging and wanting more, can purchase and download your book.

You could set up a download function on your website, but to minimize hassle and time I’d suggest using one of the download platforms that have been designed to take away all the stress.

Once again for the sake of this exercise, we’re going to use BookFunnel as an example. However, there are lots of alternatives out there. Do your due diligence and find one that works for you.

So, what is BookFunnel and what can it do for me?

BookFunnel is a software company that enables authors to deliver book files to readers. It can deliver digital files in all formats and can be used to upload reader magnets, and advanced review copies etc.

It’s relatively cheap and easy to open an account. Then the first thing you’ll want to do is set up a professional landing page where your subscribers/readers can download your ebook. It’s simple to create a professional-looking page, but the most important thing about this is that if there are download problems, BookFunnel will handle this with their support.

Once you have the address for your landing page, all you’ll need to do then is add the link at the end of your ads and marketing campaigns.

This is just one of the services offered for authors, I’d suggest checking out what’s available and giving it a go.
